Wise Earth Farm is a small-scale, family-run urban vegetable farm located at the corner of K.L.O Road and Mission Creek in Kelowna, British Columbia.
Wise Earth Farm was founded in 2011 by John Hofer and Brenda Paterson & is now operated by Myles Ferber, Ariana Gagnon, Gabby Gagnon, and seasonal staff members.
At the core of our mission is a profound commitment to nurturing nutrient-rich food & soil. We are dedicated to upholding the standards of regenerative food production — a holistic approach to agriculture that enhances soil vitality, promotes biodiversity, optimizes water management, and facilitates carbon sequestration.
Ultimately, we accomplish this by building living soil through organic practices, minimizing soil disturbance, and abstaining from using any synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or fertilizers.
Throughout the season, we offer a variety of greens, herbs, root vegetables, cool-weather-loving crops, summer crops, and micro-greens grown in the soil.
Regenerative Agriculture
At Wise Earth Farm, we prioritize building up vital organic matter in the soil. To accomplish this and nurture nutrient-rich food and soil, we implement the following farming methods, practices & principles:

Use gentle, human-scale farming tools and equipment, which aim to preserve the soil structure.

Never add any synthetic pesticides, fertilizers, herbicides, or chemicals, which disrupt the long-term microbial populations in the soil.

Keep the soil as covered as possible (with primary crops, cover crops, or tarps).

Keep as many roots in the soil as possible.

Use tarps and solarization methods to accelerate the organic decomposition process.

Use netting as a physical barrier against insects and larger animals.

Cycle organic crop material back into the soil.

Add two nutritive inputs to every bed at every planting: mulch/compost, and organic granular chicken fertilizer.

Water the field using local & natural creek water from the Mission Creek, located behind the farm.

Avoid soil compaction.
